Steve Gilliard's birthday entry

Steve Gilliard, who is conistently near perfection in his writing, really puts his 40th birthday in to perspective.

This is beautiful. A must read.

Yesterday was my 40th birthday, which, despite it's relative modesty, no big parties or anything, I was quite happy to see it. Since I could have been dead and not seen it. And I have all my limbs.

So, if you're feeling generous, remember the kids at Walter Reed:

....Remember that most are from poor families. It is disgusting that they cannot keep in touch with family after what they have been asked to sacrifice for BushCo; especially this time of year.

Support the troops -- cuz BushCo doesn't. Send phone cards of any amount to:

Medical Family Assistance Center
Walter Reed Medical Center
6900 Georgia Avenue, NW
Washington, DC 20307-5001

They say they need an "endless" supply of these -- any amount even $5 is greatly appreciated.

$5 and $10 phone cards means more people will make calls, but a few $20, $30 and $50 will help as well. There is nothing more important than being able to talk to family when you are sick and alone in a hospital. I know it was one of the things which kept me going when I was sick.

Dear ABP;

This is terrible! I'd like to give all these wounded patriots unlimited phone calls, but that would be contraindicated with regard to cost. We must stick to our plan, and stay the course with our tax cuts for the wealthy and the big multinational corporations. In the long run, this will bring the most opportunity--and therefore the biggest smiles--to these amputees and gimps.

I wish there was more I could do, but it's hard work.

In truth, most of these people would have lived poor, uneducated, welfare sucking lives anyway. With the opportunities in Iraq, President Bush has wisely given them all a chance for glory; a chance to rise above by serving freedom and punishing the evil-doers. What could be more patriotic and noble than to be part of the Loose-A-Limb-For-Freedom (LAFF) brigade?

God Bless,

Karl - always nice to hear from you. More importantly... isn't today an "off day"? No website, Karl.
